UON is Australia’s leading radiation therapy trainer. Our graduates are sought after worldwide, working to eradicate cancer using superb medical competence and the world’s most advanced cancer treatment technology. As a radiation therapist, you can make a real difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families.

What is radiation therapy Also known as radiotherapy, radiation therapy uses sophisticated radiation technology to target and destroy cancer cells and shrink tumours – allowing cancer to be treated, managed and cured. It can be the main treatment, or used alongside other treatments such as surgery or chemotherapy.

What you will study

UON’s Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Radiation Therapy) combines theoretical and scientific knowledge with practical learning. You will:

Build essential clinical reasoning and patient management skills using our latest patient treatment labs on campus.

Develop exceptional communication and interpersonal skills needed to support patients and their families.

Gain professional radiation therapy skills through case-based training, integrating learning into real situations and interactive teamwork activities.

Develop critical research skills that will set you in good stead for life-long learning in the ever-evolving field of radiation therapy.

Career opportunities

Our radiation therapy graduates are very employable and highly regarded. About 92% of our graduates find work before, or soon after, finishing their studies.

UON radiation therapy graduates are qualified to register and work as radiation therapists, health care professionals who use anatomical and functional imaging studies to design courses of treatment for patients with malignant disease. Radiation therapists also use a range of advanced technology to implement daily treatment.

为来自中国的学生设计 There are a number of ways to gain entry to undergraduate programs at the University of Newcastle. You may be considered for admission on the basis of: a completed NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent – irrespective of age of qualification; completed or partly completed higher education studies; TAFE/VET qualifications, with a minimum of a completed Certificate III (AQF level 3), excluding the Bachelor of Nursing; TAFE/VET qualifications, with a minimum of a completed Certificate II (AQF level 2) in conjunction with meeting additional performance based selection criteria for the Bachelor of Music and associated combined degrees; completion of a recognised enabling program within a 10 year period preceding admission to the University; overseas qualifications equivalent to Australian studies. English language requirement: TOEFL paper-based test score of 500; TOEFL internet based score of 60; IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0; PTE GSE score of 50; Cambridge English: Advanced score of 52.
