Diagnostic radiography is an important first step to diagnosing, treating and managing injuries and disease. Along with pathology, diagnostic radiography is the largest diagnostic test performed. The medical images you produce will allow patients to be diagnosed accurately, and can directly impact a patient’s treatment plan and overall recovery.

What you will study

UON’s Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Diagnostic Radiography) has a strong foundation in physical, biomedical and behavioural sciences. You will:

Build essential clinical reasoning and patient management skills using our latest technologies and facilities, including 2D, 3D and 4D imaging technology.

Gain professional diagnostic radiography skills through case-based training, integrating learning into real situations and interactive team work activities.

Develop critical research skills that will set you in good stead for life-long learning in the field of diagnostic radiography.

Career opportunities

Our diagnostic radiography graduates are very employable and highly regarded. About 94% of our graduates find work before, or soon after, finishing their studies.

UON diagnostic radiography graduates are qualified to register and work as diagnostic radiographers, working closely with patients and other health professionals to diagnose and manage illnesses and injuries using medical images. You may find yourself working in settings such as accident and emergency wards and operating theatres. Diagnostic radiographers play an important role in medicine and health care, and contribute significantly to improving community health.

为来自中国的学生设计 There are a number of ways to gain entry to undergraduate programs at the University of Newcastle. You may be considered for admission on the basis of: a completed NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent – irrespective of age of qualification; completed or partly completed higher education studies; TAFE/VET qualifications, with a minimum of a completed Certificate III (AQF level 3), excluding the Bachelor of Nursing; TAFE/VET qualifications, with a minimum of a completed Certificate II (AQF level 2) in conjunction with meeting additional performance based selection criteria for the Bachelor of Music and associated combined degrees; completion of a recognised enabling program within a 10 year period preceding admission to the University; overseas qualifications equivalent to Australian studies. English language requirement: TOEFL paper-based test score of 500; TOEFL internet based score of 60; IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0; PTE GSE score of 50; Cambridge English: Advanced score of 52.
