Western Michigan University's music composition program is highly competitive. Before you can be admitted, you must successfully complete the school's audition and testing program, held each November, January and February. You must also have previous composition experience, which may be acquired by transferring approved credit in composition from another institution or by successful completion of prerequisite composition courses at WMU.

Beyond the classroom

As a music composition student at WMU, you will be required to present a senior recital consisting of 30 minutes of original compositions that are an outgrowth of your coursework and have been approved by the composition faculty.

为来自中国的学生设计 A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school (or earned equivalent). Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) A minimum score of 61 iBT is required. Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) A minimum score of 69 is required. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Module. A minimum score of 6.0 is required. Pearson Test of English Academic Module. A minimum score of 45 is required.
