Plastics Engineering Technology emphasizes detailed technical knowledge as well as real world application. Plastics is a rapidly expanding field, both as a science and an industry, our curriculum keeps pace with changes and anticipated industrial needs. The Plastics Engineering Technology program at Pittsburg State University has a four-year curriculum which culminates in a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Technology. The Plastics Engineering Technology program is fully accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.

The Plastics Engineering Technology program is a key component of the university’s Polymer Chemistry Initiative. Through this initiative students will be exposed to advanced foundation Polymer Chemistry courses, theory and application of plastic design, and the research-based opportunities of the university’s Kansas Polymer Research Center. The end result is a well-rounded educational experience that provides students with the knowledge, skills and contacts they need to become successful after graduation.

Objectives

Plastics Engineering Technology Program graduates at Pittsburg State University will have the ability to:

Support and manage plastic manufacturing operations including product development, plastics processing, project management, equipment selection, tooling selection.

Work effectively in diverse teams and as individuals.

Use appropriate scientific/mathematical and computational skills necessary for plastics applications.

Use oral, graphical, and written communication skills to present and exchange information effectively, and to direct plastics processing operations.

Think critically and identify, evaluate and solve complex technical and non-technical problems.

Understand and apply professional, ethical, and quality standards of excellence consistent with the plastics industry (SPE Code of Ethics).
