Biochemistry

Biochemistry is the field of science resulting from the overlap of biology and chemistry. Biochemists explore the reactions, architecture, and role of biological molecules within a living system. To prepare students for careers in biochemistry, the Chemistry Department at Pittsburg State University offers a four-year Chemistry Degree with an Emphasis in Biochemistry.

To prepare students for careers in chemical education, the Chemistry Department at Pittsburg State University offers a four-year Chemistry Bachelor of Science in Education Degree with a Major in Chemistry. Chemistry is the branch of science that studies the reactivity, structure, and properties of atoms and molecules that compose the material and living world around us.

Chemistry – Polymer

Polymer chemistry is the branch of chemistry that studies the synthesis, characterization, and processing of macromolecules. The Polymer Division of the American Chemical Society projects that 50 percent of chemists will work with polymers during some time of their career.

Environmental Chemistry

Environmental chemistry is the study of the chemical processes that occur in nature due to activities by humans, from soil to water to the atmosphere. Through field and laboratory work, environmental chemists attempt to understand how chemicals move through the environment and impact it as well as human health. They take measurements, interpret data, and do computer modeling.

Pre Pharmacy

Pharmaceutical chemistry is the branch of chemistry that combines pharmacology and organic chemistry. To prepare students for careers in pharmacy and pharmaceutical chemistry, the Chemistry Department at Pittsburg State University offers a four-year Chemistry Degree with a Pharmaceutical Chemistry Emphasis.

Pre Medicine / Pre Medical

The Chemistry Department’s Chemistry Major with a Pre-Medicine emphasis provides students with a rigorous chemistry curriculum coupled with courses that provide the students the prerequisites required for acceptance into the majority of medical schools in the country, including both allopathic (MD) as well as osteopathic (DO ) medical paths.

English Language Requirements: TOEFL score of at least 520 (paper) or 190 (computer) or 68 (internet); IELTS score - Overall band of 6.0 (with a minimum score of 5.0; PTE Overall score of 47.
