Accredited by the Australian Computer Society, the Bachelor of Information Technology (with specialisations) at Charles Sturt University gives you a comprehensive understanding of fields across the entire IT industry.

You can also choose to specialise in an area that fires your imagination and fits your career goals. Choose from: Cyber Security, Network Engineering, Software and Application Development, and Web Development.

Get the best of both worlds

We’re changing the game when it comes to learning that works for you. Year one, you can choose to study online or combine on-campus and online study. You’ll make all-important connections with your peers and academics, and build your industry network. Plus, because we know you have a busy life, we’ll keep the timetable nice and compact so you can fit everything in. As you move into your second and third years, you’ll study more independently as you start to specialise and undertake industry placements. The course changes as you learn more.

Will you get a solid grounding in the fundamental theory and practice in your field? Of course. That’s what your first year is all about. You then build on those foundations by specialising in an area that aligns with your career goals.

Build your employability

Alongside your foundational and technical skills, you’ll also study employability skills subjects that will give you the aptitudes relevant to any job – such as communication, problem-solving and critical thinking. So you’ll graduate with the ultimate portfolio of skills that employers need. How do we know employers need them? We got them to help us develop the course.

A qualification at every step

As you complete each year of study, you gain a qualification. After the first year, you can receive a Diploma of Information Technology; after the second, an Associate Degree in Information Technology.

Specialisations

You can choose any of the following specialisations depending on your career goal and interests. All students must choose the required eight subjects from the list of subjects given in each specialisation.

Cyber security

Learn how to identify and defend organisations and individuals against cyber-attacks, as well as educating users about best practice for avoiding attacks. Cyber surety is one of the world’s fastest growing industry – this specialisation gives you the skills to work at its cutting edge.

Software Design and Development

This specialisation is for the students who are interested in computer programming and software design and development. The specialisation begins with the basic programming principles and then discusses the advanced professional programming concepts for the production of quality software. Students taking this specialisation also learn fundamental mobile applications development concepts.

Network Engineering

This specialisation is for the students who are interested to build their career in computer networking and network engineering. The specialisation begins with the fundamental computer networking concepts and then discussed advanced topics such as routing and switching and network design. Advanced topics related to networking such as virtualisation, network security and IT infrastructure management are also discussed in this specialisation.

Web Development

Explore web page design, web programming and usability principles to ensure the very best user experience. Design and develop web pages and e-commerce systems to ensure that any organisation or business – large or small – remains competitive and viable.
