Does the role of food in society fascinate you? Learn how food and nutrition influence individual and community wellbeing with the Bachelor of Food Science and Nutrition from Charles Sturt University. This course will develop your ability to analyse nutrition, food product development, consumption trends, factors influencing attitudes to food and health, food supply, food policy and ecological issues associated with food.

Delve into the social, cultural, technical, environmental, economic and political factors influencing food habits, diet and lifestyle. When applying, you’ll choose a dedicated stream of study from exercise science, community nutrition, transition to dietetics or food innovation and marketing.

A broad knowledge base

You'll develop your knowledge, understanding and skills in appropriate aspects of food and nutrition and its scientific basis to enable you to work in multidisciplinary teams in a range of health and industry settings.

The latest equipment

To ensure you’re experienced in using the equipment and techniques found in the workplace, our facilities include food science laboratories, a commercial food preparation laboratory.

Professional recognition

This course allows you to apply to the Nutrition Society of Australia (NSA) for the qualification of Associate Nutritionist; however, the NSA does not formally accredit courses. Graduates are also eligible for membership of the Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology (AIFST).

Study in dedicated areas

When applying, you are required to pick one of the following streams of study from exercise science, community nutrition, food innovation and marketing. You can also consider studying the stream that may facilitate entry to postgraduate dietetics study. These streams allow you to better understand the relationship of food and nutrition to specialist areas of health or food development.

Academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) overall score of at least 6.0; TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) internet based score of 60, Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic score of 50; TOEFL PBT: 550; Cambridge English Scale: CAE and CPE from 2015: 169.
