专业概况

在这里学什么？ This course allows you to specialise in the study of criminology within a social policy degree. It explores the nature, extent and causes of crime, social harm and deviance in national and international contexts, as well as examining the policy responses to them within a broader conceptual and theoretical framework of social policy.The course seeks to address key questions such as: What are the serious crimes and other social harms that people experience? Why do they occur? How effective is criminal justice in tackling and responding to crimes and social harms? Are rising imprisonment rates the answer? Is it possible to imagine alternative systems of justice? What role does or should social policy play in these debates?You will take a compulsory first-year unit that introduces you to the theoretical and conceptual debates about the meaning and existence of crime, harm and deviance in contemporary society. In the second and third years you will select from a range of optional units, which may include: Youth, Sexualities and Gendered Violence; Gender-based Violence; Youth Justice; and Punishment in Society.In your third year you will complete a dissertation in a particular area of social policy or criminology.This course opens up a range of possible careers in the private, public and not-for-profit sector, including those relating to crime and criminal justice.

为来自中国的学生设计 The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is for international students whose first language is not English. Run by our Centre for Academic Language and Development, the one-year programme will prepare you for the undergraduate degree of your choice through tailored English language and academic units. Applicants with the Gaozhong Biye Zhengshu (Senior High School Certificate) and Gaokao (Chinese University entrance exam) combined with a successfully completed appropriate foundation programme will be considered for admission to our bachelor's degree courses. Applicants who have successfully completed the first year of a Chinese university degree at a prestigious university will be considered for admission to the first year of our bachelor's degree courses. Students need to have IELTS 6.0 overall with either listening or speaking at 6.5, with no skill below 6.0.
