专业概况

The Master of Science program is available with a major in nutrition and concentrations in cellular and molecular nutrition or public health nutrition. A graduate degree combined with a Dietetic Internship (DI) beyond the baccalaureate degree qualifies the graduate to apply for the Registration Examination to become a Registered Dietitian (RD).

Cellular and Molecular Nutrition MS Program

Course Requirements To complete the MS with a concentration in Cellular and Molecular Nutrition, students must complete a thesis. The program consists of a minimum of 39 hours with at least 20 hours in the department. A minimum of 24 hours (not including thesis) at the 500 or 600 level are required

Thesis option

A graduate student works closely with a faculty advisor and his or her graduate committee on an original research project. The research project includes developing a proposal, conducting the research project that has been proposed, and documenting the research project by the preparation of a written thesis. The thesis research is generally published in a professional research journal. The graduate student also performs an oral defense of the thesis.

Course Requirements

To complete the MS with a concentration in Public Health Nutrition, students may choose the thesis or non-thesis option. All students complete concurrent and block field experiences, with the block field experience occurring during a summer session. The block field experience includes an analytical field paper for non-thesis students and poster presentation for thesis and non-thesis students. The 2017-2018 Curriculum Guide has been released but is subject to change due to anticipated curricular changes in the Department of Public Health.

Thesis option The thesis option consists of a minimum of 41 hours with at least 38 hours in the department. A minimum of 41 hours (not including thesis) at the 500 or 600 level are required. An oral comprehensive examination is required upon completion of the thesis.
