The Bachelor of Applied Social Science in Counselling is a three year full-time, dynamic qualification that will provide you with the theoretical & practical skills you need to pursue a career as a counsellor in various settings. If you are passionate about helping people this is the program for you.

The Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling) will equip you with the practical skills and understanding to work with different groups as a counsellor in a variety of areas. These include community settings, counselling organizations and the health services sector. Undertake this course as a gateway to a professional career or pathway into postgraduate study. As a graduate of this course, you’ll be able to apply for membership of the PACFA or ACA, the national bodies for counselling and psychotherapy professionals.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

• Apply specific counselling modalities and interventions to meet the needs of clients
• Explain mental health and the impact of mental ill health on individuals and families
• Respond to human diversity and establish working relationships with clients
• Apply effective counselling interventions with people presenting with alcohol, drug abuse and addiction
• Apply constructive methods to facilitate change
• Evaluate the effectiveness of counselling
• Refer clients to other health professionals as appropriate.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Academic: Overall 6.0 (min. sub-score 5.5); Test of English as a Foreign (TOEFL) – Paper Based Test: 550; Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – Internet Based Test (iBT): 60-78 (min. 18 in writing); Pearson Test of English (PTE): 50 (no skill score <42); Cambridge English Requirements (B2 First = First Certificate Exam and C1 Advanced = CAE): Overall Cambridge English Scale score of 169, achievable in B2 First or C1 Advanced. No less than 162 in any paper; Occupational English Test (OET): C.
