专业概况

在这里学什么？

More than ever before, professionals in the communications field need intercultural sensitivity, international awareness and the ability to transcend borders and interpret the communications of other cultures.

This 36 credit program is completed over four semesters plus one summer. It requires an overseas internship for domestic students and for those whose first language is English, and a final thesis or a project demonstrating excellence.

This program is designed to prepare you to become a government, NGO or business spokesperson. It is also an excellent fit for students anticipating a career as a foreign news reporter or commentator, a webmaster or content manager for an international firm; a cross-cultural communications specialist; a public relations specialist; or a career in public diplomacy.

The Global Media and Communication studies students develop and demonstrate competency in the following areas:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the roles and functions of traditional and new media
• Demonstrate an ability to function as an effective communicator, writer, and spokesperson
• Demonstrate an understanding of the different media systems in the world and patterns of communication
• Demonstrate abilities and skills to communicate across cultures and nations
• Demonstrate an ability to use media and communication skills to address conflicts and misunderstandings
• Demonstrate an understanding of the legal and ethical issues in media communication
• Demonstrate abilities and skills in gathering, writing, and reporting news in foreign countries
• Develop abilities to create effective media content
• Demonstrate abilities to assess, use, and interpret information
• Develop basic knowledge of at least one world language other than English.
