专业概况
在这里学什么？A music degree from the University of Bridgeport will provide students with the preparation they need to build a career in today’s music world. UB has been training musicians since 1947. We offer an experienced and dedicated faculty of artist-teachers, the kind of personal attention and advising usually found at small colleges, and the sort of spacious and well-designed facilities typically found at large universities.
Our Bachelor of Music degree provides pre-professional training in music, including concentrations in Music Business, Music Education, and Music Performance.
The UB School of Education offers a master’s degree that leads to initial Connecticut certification in several subjects, including Music Teaching Certification (K-12). This program welcomes musicians from a variety of backgrounds who wish to become state-certified in music. Advising and music education coursework are coordinated between this program and the undergraduate program.
Internships & Careers
UB Music students are encouraged to pursue credit-bearing internships and have had experiences in arts administration, music business, community music, music education, creative arts therapy, technical theatre, and performance at a variety of organizations in Connecticut and the New York City metropolitan area.
Concentrations
The University of Bridgeport offers three concentration options for the Bachelor of Music degree program.
Music Education
The Music Education concentration is designed to provide foundational training and experiences for prospective music teachers, and prepare them to begin graduate studies leading to certification as a public school music teacher.
The Music & Performing Arts Program and the University’s School of Education offer the appropriate master’s degree (M.S.) which leads to initial teaching certification in music. The B.M. in Music Education is designed to work in conjunction with UB’s master’s program in Music Education. Qualified seniors in the undergraduate concentration receive preferred consideration for admission to the graduate program. Students can complete their BM and MS in five consecutive years, with an additional semester for clinical practice (student teaching). Graduates of this program enjoy a competitive job placement rate and have built careers as exemplary music teachers throughout the state and region.
Music Business
The Music Business concentration is a combination of professional music study and courses tailored by advisement to the student’s strengths, interests, and career plans. Due to the great diversity found within the music industry, exact coursework will differ from student to student.
In addition to Music & Performing Arts, appropriate coursework may be taken in UB’s Ernest C. Trefz School of Business, Shintaro Akatsu School of Design, or School of Engineering, as well as the Mass Communication program. This concentration is designed to help musicians become entrepreneurial professionals ready to succeed in today’s marketplace. Qualified candidates who complete this concentration are competitive candidates for admission to MBA programs at UB and elsewhere.
Music Performance
The Music Performance concentration allows students to deepen their skills as a solo and ensemble performer working in one or more genres.
Due to the diversity of the music profession, we encourage students to develop a broad musicianship, including proficiency in more than one genre. Skill, professionalism, flexibility, and creativity are stressed. Performance candidates give a senior recital as the cumulating experience. Exact courses are tailored by advisement to the student’s strengths, interests, and career plans.
