专业概况

在这里学什么？ If you are naturally curious about our planet and interested in finding solutions to global problems, then this course could be for you. You will learn about the physics, chemistry and history of the Earth through hands-on examination of earth materials such as rocks, minerals and fossils, and using remote sensing techniques such as seismic waves to explore the structure and chemistry of its inaccessible areas.In years one and two you will gain a firm grounding in earth sciences, building your knowledge to inform your choice of third-year and fourth-year options. Your third year also includes an independent mapping project, either in the UK or overseas. In the fourth year you will study advanced topics, then undertake a major research project in the second half of the year. A number of our previous students' project reports have been published in scientific journals.We have a large geology collection and the ability to measure unique geochemical reactions, giving you an insight into geology in practice. The course includes over 40 days of fieldwork in the UK and overseas, the cost of which is included in your tuition fee.All our geology degrees are accredited by the Geological Society of London and transfers between courses may be possible.

为来自中国的学生设计 The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is for international students whose first language is not English. Run by our Centre for Academic Language and Development, the one-year programme will prepare you for the undergraduate degree of your choice through tailored English language and academic units. Applicants with the Gaozhong Biye Zhengshu (Senior High School Certificate) and Gaokao (Chinese University entrance exam) combined with a successfully completed appropriate foundation programme will be considered for admission to our bachelor's degree courses. Applicants who have successfully completed the first year of a Chinese university degree at a prestigious university will be considered for admission to the first year of our bachelor's degree courses. Students need to have IELTS 6.0 overall with either listening or speaking at 6.5, with no skill below 6.0.
