Study a degree that equips you with advanced level English skills and graduate career-ready to succeed in changing professional environments.

This degree increases your employment prospects by enabling you to gain expertise in two different areas of interest.

There is also an opportunity to study a portion of your degree overseas, as part of the University’s Hawke Ambassador Volunteer Experience Program. As part of this program you will volunteer with an international non-government organisation (NGO), usually in an overseas destination.

What you'll learn

The English Language major will equip you with communicative proficiency and intercultural expertise to work in local and global contexts.

You will:

• develop advanced level English skills to equip you as a career-ready professional
• gain intercultural expertise to work in a variety of countries and contexts
• develop research and project management skills to help you pursue honours, research or postgraduate studies

This degree allows you to select two majors ensuring you graduate with a broad knowledge of two areas of interest. You can choose a second major from the following:

• Applied Linguistics
• Cultural Studies
• Creative Writing and Literature
• History and Global Politics
• Languages (French/Italian/Japanese)
• Law, Policy and Politics
• Performing Arts
• Psychology
• Screen Studies
• Social Media
• Sociology

In addition to your two majors, you will also be required to complete four courses from a selected list of minors (also from the above list), and two elective courses in an area of your interest.

The nature of this degree means the employment prospects are broad and diverse. Graduates can use their exceptional English skills to advance their professional careers in a wide range of settings both locally and internationally.

为来自中国的学生设计 Students must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 program. In order to gain entry, students require an additional year of study following their high school studies. For example, this can include successful completion of: One year of study at a recognised tertiary or higher education institution. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: Overall 6.0 (with 6.0 in Reading and Writing); TOEFL iBT score of 60 with Reading and Writing not less than 18; TOEFL paper-based test (PBT) score of 550 with TWE of 4.5; Cambridge CAE/CPE score of 169; Pearson's test of English (Academic) (PTE) score of 50 with Reading and Writing communicative scores not less than 50; CELUSA score of AE4.
