Combining the traditional Islamic sciences with contemporary discourse on religion and Islam, CSU's Master of Islamic Studies offers a uniquely balanced Islamic studies program for the current global context.

This course develops your ability to analyse information relating to a broad range of Islamic matters.

This course is part of an articulated program of study. Articulated programs allow you to build on your study to achieve the right level of qualification for you.

Course highlights

The Master of Islamic Studies provides grounded knowledge and research skills to develop your ability to analyse information in theological, legal, social, contemporary and spiritual aspects of Islam.

Comprehensive program

You will gain knowledge in both traditional and contemporary Islamic studies. You will have the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge in a number of Islamic disciplines through the extensive research opportunities offered in the course.

Skills development

This degree develops your independent research, analytical and communication skills, as well as your critical thinking in diverse theological and research methodologies focused on your research area.

Flexible study options

This course is available for part-time online study to complement your work and lifestyle commitments. You can also fast-track your studies by taking extra subjects in Session 3 (November to February). Optional weekly lectures are offered in Melbourne and Sydney at the Islamic Sciences and Research Academy of Australia (ISRA).

Reputation for excellence

The Centre for Islamic Sciences and Civilisation is a collaboration between CSU and ISRA. CSU's courses have been designed in collaboration with ISRA's advisory committee, which includes some of the most respected scholars from the Australian Muslim community.

Career opportunities

Your knowledge and skills will add value to professions such as teaching, nursing, psychology, medicine and policing. You could also pursue religious education teaching opportunities in schools, mosques, religious organisations or private Islamic teaching circles. With further study, you could forge an academic career as a specialist in Islamic studies, including the various disciplines that fall under Islamic studies.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must have completed Australian bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline from a university or other tertiary education provider. Academic IELTS with a minimum overall score of 6.5 and with no score below 6.0 in each of the individual skill areas, TOEFL test result with a minimum overall score of 577, Internet based TOEFL score of 79; PTE Academic: 58; Cambridge (CPE) Pre 2015: 45; Cambridge English Scale: CAE and CPE from 2015: 176.
