Chinese Medicine is a system of primary health care that works holistically to maintain or restore balance and harmony in our bodies. Chinese Medicine philosophy is based on principles of Yin and Yang and the concept of Qi. The origins of Chinese Medicine go back thousands of years, and work with the philosophy that balanced and free-flowing Qi (energy) results in health, while stagnant or imbalanced Qi leads to disease. Chinese Medicine is truly holistic in its approach and believes that the body, mind, spirit and emotions are all interlinked. It recommends that we as humans follow the universal laws of nature to achieve total harmony and health.

If you’re interested in understanding the practical skills to treat acute and chronic illnesses through Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture and ancillary techniques, we can provide you with in-depth knowledge to make a positive impact on others. This four-year Chinese Medicine degree is approved by the National Australian accreditation body TEQSA (Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency). Torrens University Australia is in the process of seeking accreditation of this new Bachelor of Health Science (Chinese Medicine) program with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA). The course is designed to meet all three divisions of Chinese Medicine practitioner registration, including Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and Chinese herbal dispensing.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

• Apply evidenced based strategies to acupuncture and herbal treatments.
• Explore the relationship between the mind, body and spirit.
• Explore how different external factors can cause disease.
• Explore the history and philosophy of Chinese medicine.
• construct an acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine prescription and safely perform acupuncture and prescribe and dispense Chinese herbal prescriptions.
• Understand the regulations and guidelines on restricted substances such as the CITES, TGA and CMBA guidelines.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Academic: Overall 6.0 (min. sub-score 5.5); Test of English as a Foreign (TOEFL) – Paper Based Test: 550; Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – Internet Based Test (iBT): 60-78 (min. 18 in writing); Pearson Test of English (PTE): 50 (no skill score <42); Cambridge English Requirements (B2 First = First Certificate Exam and C1 Advanced = CAE): Overall Cambridge English Scale score of 169, achievable in B2 First or C1 Advanced. No less than 162 in any paper; Occupational English Test (OET): C.
