专业概况

The Master of Translation Studies is designed to further develop your skills in translation between English and another language. You will learn theories and practical strategies that are essential to achieve high quality translations and applicable in a wide range of workplaces.

The Master of Translation Studies will equip you with advanced knowledge and skills in both the theory and practice of translation. The program includes a focus on human evaluation of machine translation and will provide opportunities to participate in machine translation-related research projects with industry partners. Throughout the degree, you will explore the foundations of language structure and how communicative practices are expressed in and through languages. As a part of this program, you will also undertake a translation project under the supervision of a specialist staff member, giving you first-hand experience within your degree.

The Master of Translation Studies will open many doors to diverse careers in a range of different fields including education and academia, government, medicine and health, media and journalism, language translation, law and policy development, tourism, and international relations. Program learning outcomes

On successful completion of the program students will have:

• A body of knowledge that includes the understanding of recent developments in a discipline and/or area of professional practice
• Demonstrated the application of knowledge and skills to plan and execute a substantial research-based project, capstone experience and/or piece of scholarship
• Demonstrated the ability to create accurate translations from English into another language or from another language into English
• Demonstrated the ability to incorporate theoretical knowledge and cultural awareness into translation activities
• Demonstrated the ability to evaluate machine translation and other translation technology for use in particular translation tasks.
