专业概况
在这里学什么?The Master of Arts in Mathematics extends the student’s knowledge in the areas of algebra, real and complex analysis, applied mathematics, combinatorics, geometry, number theory, and topology. The program permits specialization in preparing for advanced study, and provides additional training for teachers of mathematics and students seeking employment in industry.
Program Requirements
The degree is available in both a non-thesis and a thesis option. Students wishing to transfer from one option to the other should discuss this with their advisor.
Non-thesis Option
Complete a minimum of thirty hours of approved course work
With at least twenty-four hours in mathematics, including:
A year-long course sequence selected in consultation with advisor. Credits: 6 hours
MATH 5220 - Introduction to Topology Credits: 3 hours
(with a grade of “B” or better)
Or have had the equivalent prior to entering the program.
MATH 5300 - Linear Algebra Credits: 3 hours
(with a grade of “B” or better)
Or have had the equivalent prior to entering the program.
MATH 5710 - Advanced Calculus II Credits: 3 hours
(with a grade of “B” or better)
Or have had the equivalent prior to entering the program.
MATH 6300 - Abstract Algebra I Credits: 3 hours
Either:
MATH 6700 - Real Analysis I Credits: 3 hours
OR
MATH 6760 - Complex Analysis Credits: 3 hours
Thesis Option
Complete a minimum of twenty-four hours of approved course work
With all twenty-four hours in mathematics, including:
A year-long course sequence selected in consultation with advisor. Credits: 6 hours
MATH 5220 - Introduction to Topology Credits: 3 hours
