专业概况

在这里学什么？ The human body is a collection of interacting systems that in normal health work smoothly with each other in a self-regulated manner. By studying this in the context of medical science at molecular, cellular and systems levels, you will find out how diseases happen and the science behind the clinical strategies to cure them. On the MBiolSci, you will hone your research and laboratory skills and extend your medically specialised BSc programme into a fourth year of masters level study.Having chosen and completed a specialised route through one of our BSc in Medical Sciences programmes you have the opportunity continue into a fourth year of masters level study.Each of the integrated masters years allows you to focus on refining your research and laboratory skills in your subject of interest and gives you the opportunity to practice the transferable employability skills learned in your first three years. The choice of integrated masters years includes specialisms in: Molecular Genetics, Cancer Cell Biology, Cancer Molecular Pathology and Therapeutics, Infection and Immunity, Chronic Disease and Inflammation and Research Methods in Neuroscience/Animal Behaviour.The analytical and critical skills you acquire by studying an integrated masters in Medical Sciences are particularly valued by PhD supervisors, researchers and employers in non-scientific fields.At the University of Leicester, we offer four Medical Science degree programmes alongside seven Biological Sciences degrees. You can apply for the degree in Medical Physiology or any of the other three specialist Medical Science degrees listed below. Whichever degree programme you choose, your first year will be the same, which gives you the flexibility to change your programme should your interests develop in a different direction to your original choice. In the second and third years you will have a choice of modules from across the Biological Sciences portfolio and specialist Medical Sciences modules that will steer you towards your degree of choice.All of our Medical Sciences degrees include the option to change your programme, particularly in Year 1.The other available specialisms are:Medical BiochemistryMedical GeneticsMedical MicrobiologyOur four Medical Sciences degrees allow selection of specialist modules that focus more closely on the application of biological principles to medicine. Our seven Biological Sciences degree programmes cover major aspects of biology and molecular sciences across a wide range of organisms from bacteria and fungi to humans and plants.There is the possibility of transferring across from our Medical Sciences degrees to our Biological Sciences degrees within the first semester of Year 1.
