专业概况

As the name suggests, the recreation management (RM) generalist emphasis allows students to explore all areas of recreation. Students in the generalist emphasis take the recreation management core curriculum, they have the choice of:

a) Taking courses in each of the emphasis areas; or, b) pursuing a minor in recreation-related areas such as biology, communications, business, or environmental studies.

Depending on which minor is paired with the recreation management generalist major, students will be ready to pursue a variety of careers such as:

• Outdoor Educator (RM generalist with a minor in biology)
• Experiential Education and Group Facilitation Specialist (RM generalist with a minor in communications)
• Recreation Related Business Manager (RM generalist with a minor in business administration)
• Environmental/Recreation Policy Advocate (RM Generalist with a minor in environmental studies)

Occupational Outlook

Recreation management majors, upon graduating, are eligible to take the Certified Park and Recreation Professional examination through the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA),a valuable credential for professional advancement. In the commercial area, students are also eligible to take the Certified Commercial Recreation Professional (CCRP) Examination.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the recreation management major find career opportunities as directors, associate directors, associate managers, coordinators and specialists in many of the following areas: • National, state, county, or city parks and recreation agencies • Army Corps of Engineers • Resorts • Military MWR recreation (civil service) • Commercial recreation enterprises • Convention centers • Cruise lines • Department of Natural Resources • Visitors bureaus • University and campus recreation • Theme and water parks • Camp agencies • Boys and Girls Clubs • Outdoor adventure programs • Environmental education centers • Golf facilities • Aquatic centers • YMCA/YWCA
